- Hi All,
-
- A few weeks ago I asked as part of a mail if there are port testers for
- midi. Well, not surprisingly, there are.
- One I saw working recently only costs 2 and is called a 'BrightEye' and is
- made by:
-
- RTPS systems Ltd,
- PO Box 81,
- Bicester Oxon OX6 9YY,
- UK
-
- Can't find a phone number but they're emailable on
- midi_for_humans@aspects.com
-
- Or, like the studio I'm borrowing it from, just get your friendly music
- shop to order one in if it, or something
- similar is not in stock.
-
- The one I saw is the normal 'male' one that just plugs into either your out
- or thru port. It needs no batteries
- and just uses power from what it's pluged into. You just plug it in itself
- rather than in-line to pc or whatever and
- it simply flashes bright red when output data is being passed to indicate
- that the keyboard's output is working
- (or not as the case may be). The flashes are nice and bright so there's no
- debate if you're getting a signal or
- not. For the price I'm very impressed.
-
- There is also a female version available which is for checking your MIDI
- leads plugged into either of these
- ports, but I supose you could just test them on the MIDI-In side ie if
- 'playback' from pc to keyboards is OK then
- so is the lead (yes, until you wiggle it says someone - but that's going to
- happen with a female BrightEye as
- well). Accordingly, my advice is just to buy a male one.
-
- ps - haven't actually tried it on the keyboard I was having the trouble
- with yet but I'll be going along soon;
- fascinating isn't it, no ofcourse not but damn useful if it shows the
- problem IS the out port.
-
- regards,
- Richard
